The Gonstead Method

Dr. Fox provides full spine and extremity care. He specializes in the Gonstead Method of Chiropractic.

Dr. C. S. Gonstead (1898-1978) was the “Miracle Man” of Chiropractic. His  technique became the “gold standard” for the entire profession. With a background in mechanical engineering, he saw the human spine as an intricate engineering wonder and he studied it every chance he had. His years of practice with thousands of spinal cases, his constant study of the spine, and his own innate intelligence of how the spine works led him to discover and correct subluxations no one else could.

Following in the steps of Dr. Gonstead, Dr. Alex and Dr. Doug Cox have preserved and  maintained his teachings which are taught in Chiropractic Colleges around the world.

The Gonstead Method gives rise to a specific and precise approach to every segment of the spinal column.

A Thorough Evaluation
Espanola Family Chiropractic Technique

The two probes detect minute differences in temperature up and down your spine.

After studying your health history, we conduct a complete examination. This generally includes full spine X-rays and precise analysis. Using a small heat-sensing instrument, subluxation patterns are revealed by slight differences in temperature. Finally, we use our fingertips to “palpate” or feel the location of individual bones and how they may differ from their normal position.  Dr. Fox often spends time after hours analyzing exam/x-ray results to determine the exact spinal adjustment each patient requires.

Full Spine Correction

With a complete picture of your spine it’s time to make the needed corrections.

A special adjusting table called a Zenith Hy-Lo table is utilized for many corrections throughout the spine. To adjust your lower spine and pelvis, we’ll have you lie on your side. Subluxations in the middle back are corrected as you assume a comfortable face down position.  Neck or cervical adjustments are performed in the seated position, very precisely without twisting or rotating your neck.  All Gonstead adjustments are given by hand alone.

Sometimes you’ll hear a slight “popping” sound that we call cavitation. Sometimes you won’t. Either way, better health is on the way!

Safe and Effective

The Gonstead Technique is acknowledged as one of the safest systems of evaluating and caring for the spine.
